Message from the Mayor
Sunday, February 12, 2023
Today’s tragedy due to gun violence fills me, as I am sure you, with many emotions. We as a community have grown weary of the repeated concerns and effects of gun violence, especially its impact on our youth.
I ask that you pray with me for peace, wisdom, patience, discernment, and justice. Join me in praying for the victims, their families, the alleged shooters and their respective families, eyewitnesses, law enforcement, and all responders involved in today's event. Also, let’s be prayerful for our youth and all involved in our school system as they return to classes tomorrow, as our educational system today includes much more than coursework and assignments. Teachers and coaches are mentors, counselors, and some are more like a parent than a teacher.
- May we as a community rise up to mentor rather than cast blame.
- May we as a community stand up against all destructive behavior by supporting our churches, schools, and activities designed to develop our future.
- May our entire community act in unison and be filled with the spirit of outreach and compassion.
Please know that law enforcement from multiple agencies responded immediately and the situation. There continues to be an ongoing investigation.

CITY OF LOUISVILLE
MAYOR'S YOUTH COUNCIL
The Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) is a group of young people working toward a common purpose of developing individual leadership skills to strengthen their communities through volunteer service and increased communication with municipal leaders. The Louisville MYC creates opportunities for personal development, community engagement, and the attainment of community service hours. Additionally, participants also provide valuable insight on issues affecting youth and the community. With support from adult mentors, youth develop and lead community service initiatives. The MYC is more than a service club because it provides members with the opportunity to train and involve peers in service leadership.

Salute to Women in Law Enforcement
Women constitute less than 13% of total law enforcement officers and a much smaller proportion of leadership positions. Despite national efforts to recruit and retain women in policing and ancillary law enforcement support positions, the number of women seeking careers in law enforcement remains stagnant. However, the City of Louisville actively recruits and works to retain highly qualified law enforcement professionals, regardless of gender. Further, the City of Louisville is proud of the women who choose to serve our community as police officers, court clerks and liaisons, as well as indispensable E-911 dispatchers. We are excited to highlight and celebrate the women who protect, serve, and administratively support our city through their law enforcement-related careers. HATS OFF TO ALL WOMEN OF LAW ENFORCEMENT.
The women of various law enforcement-related departments celebrated together over good food, fellowship, and a splash of glamour. A big thank you to Patricia Whitcomb, City of Louisville Community Liaison, for coordinating the annual Women of Law Enforcement Day of Celebration.

This is a friendly reminder and a few points of clarity regarding the curfew in effect.
- The goal of the curfew is to increase public safety and decrease gun and property crimes occurring during peak hours.
- Citizens found to be traveling during curfew times are subject to being stopped by police, this is not to say that all citizens will automatically be issued a fine, as the goal is to detect unlawful behaviors and prevent crime – not to fine or arrest law-abiding citizens.
- Be prepared to provide the reason you are traveling during the curfew times and all necessary information such as driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Be courteous to your fellow citizens and police officers, a little kindness goal a long way.
- Remember that officers enforcing the curfew are working to keep you, the citizens of Louisville, safe.
